The Oxfam Humankind Index for Scotland

Event report

In June 2011, Scotland’s Futures Forum hosted a conversation café as part of the Oxfam Humankind Index, which was being developed in order to value the things that really matter to the people of Scotland. This might include their social relations, their health and skills, their physical environment and natural context, and their financial assets.

Full public and body politic participation in creation of the Humankind Index was absolutely central, and the intention was to capture the values of an inclusive society rather merely measure GDP. In turn, the aim was to enable government to focus on what really matters, and to take more informed decisions about where society wants to go.
